We sometimes struggle with determining how or when to progress in our fitness routines. Fitness is a process of simply maintaining or developing health in a general or specific way, but we occasionally desire to improve our results or desire to do more. If you need to change your fitness routine you will learn when and how to do it simply

Time to change your fitness routine—the plateau!

At certain times during our fitness experiences, we may find it necessary to make changes, especially when we experience a lack of change in our bodies. The results that we are lacking are often a sign that we may have met a plateau. But what is a plateau? A plateau describes the moment in consistent exercise regimens, where the results are difficult to see or stop. Plateaus are often a sign that we need to make changes to our workouts. In fact, these simple changes not only restore the progress that we had when we first started, but it also reignites motivation.

When are necessary changes to be made towards your workout progression?

There are many things that we may notice when we are involved with a stagnant fitness routine. This stagnancy is a sign that we may need to make some changes to our workout routine. It usually takes 2-3 months before a workout routine must change. Below are signs and the effects of stagnant workouts or the need to make changes to your fitness routine.

  • Weightloss stops

  • Muscles development stops

  • Motivation begins to get "stale" or "boring "

  • Repetitive exercises making your joints achy or "tennis elbow"

The above signs of a need to change your workout are only the beginning of other possible signs. Making the appropriate changes to your workout routine will also protect you from injury.

What are the things that can be done to end a plateau period during your workout?

Once you realize that your workout routine is not progressing, "plateauing", and changes are no longer being seen on your body, or your fitness, you can make the following changes to your workout routine.

  • Change the number of repetitions or sets you perform.

  • Change the type of exercises that you do

  • Change the amount of time that you perform an exercise session.

  • Alternate between dumbbells, bodyweight, and stationary machines for resistance training.

  • Alternate between outdoor cardio and indoor cardio sessions.

Bottomline

It is important to keep your fitness routine new and fresh. When things start to plateau and get dull, it is important that changes are made to keep you achieving the fitness goals. Make the mentioned changes to enhance your fitness experience.
